Seeing the ridiculous amount of frozen yogurt options in Williamsville/Amherst, I was getting a little anxious for the arrival of Froyo in the city of Buffalo. We really REALLY love Red Mango, but the idea of driving down Transit Rd. from the city can definitely be discouraging. Alli and I have been watching the progress of Yotality for the last couple of weeks (in the old Chow Chocolat location on Elmwood) and were hoping it would satisfy our frozen yogurt cravings. A few days ago we were driving through the Elmwood Village and noticed a large crowd sitting outside the colorful shop. We decided to visit Yotality as soon as possible.

Before we visited the Elmwood location, we had read some negative remarks about their recently opened Williamsville location and the subpar quality of the froyo. Even with our somewhat low expectations, Alli and I arrived hoping that Yotality would be our go to sweet shop this summer. The shop itself is very cute; they’ve done a really nice job fitting ten or so tables outside for people to enjoy their frozen treats and do some serious people watching. The inside looks very new, everything is clean and the stations for toppings were neat and freshly filled. Like most shops, they have about a dozen flavors of frozen yogurt and you can mix together flavors that are on the same machine. The actual flavors were pretty standard but some of the dessert toppings were a little unique; mini snicker doodles, birthday cake bites and an impressive amount of crushed candy bars.
The frozen yogurt, sadly, wasn’t that great. I tried their Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel, Wild Strawberry and Cake Batter flavors. All three flavors definitely had a ‘watered down’ texture that was evident as soon as we poured the yogurt into our cups; it was not as creamy as other yogurts we’ve had. On top of that, all of the flavors we tried were overly sweet and tasted too artificial, especially the Wild Strawberry and Cake Batter (pictured above). Alli tried the Wild Strawberry as well as their ‘plain’ Euro Tart and had similiar issues. By the time we sat down outside (less than 5 minutes after arriving), our yogurt was actually melting into liquid quicker then we could eat it (and it was only 65-70 degrees outside).
Overall, while the shop looks nice, I don’t think we’ll be going back any time soon. Luckily, White Rabbit (we’ll be trying their Amherst location soon) is opening soon just down the street and Red Mango eventually (hopefully) will be showing up in the city somewhere. Maybe they just need a few days to get any kinks worked out, but based on reviews from others (here’s a great one from our friend Matthew Luongo over at mcl (squared)), I don’t have high hopes.
