Food Porn: Muscoreil’s Fine Desserts

Much like our trip to Pumpernick and Pastry, this visit happened because of our search for a wedding cake.  We have a ‘consultation’ with Muscoreil’s lined up for January so I wanted to stop in and get a preview of some of their sweets.  So after a delicious lunch last weekend we decided to get some desserts and get a sneak peak at how good they are. Alli and I went a little overboard and walked out of there with 4 different desserts (all in the name of BuffaloEats, of course), here’s how they all tasted…

So Alli and I looked over their large glass cases and decided on the following (clockwise):  a Peanut Butter Pie, Chocolate Cake, Cheesecake with a Strawberry topping and a slice of Napoleon Cake.

The Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie was absolutely amazing, I think I devoured this thing in less then 2 minutes.  Not only was the crust delicious (flaky and light) but the chocolate fudge topping was great and the peanut pie filling was creamy.  The ratio of chocolate to peanut butter was perfect, neither of them overwhelmed the other and the combination tasted like a Reese Peanut Butter Cup on steroids.  The Chocolate Cake was good as well, you’ll really have to love chocolate to enjoy their cake.  The frosting was very rich and the cake was a little dry, but I’ll probably have to wait until our cake tasting to get a proper taste of cake fresh out of the oven.

The Cheesecake was amazing and considering that I don’t even like cheesecake, that’s saying a lot  The strawberry topping was sweet and sugary and the cheesecake also had some strawberry inside.  However the Napoleon (also known as Mille-feuille) was really disappointing, this was my first experience with the dessert and maybe it’s just not for me.  They layers were flaky but I couldn’t cut through the slice with a fork and the frosting layer had hardened and almost tasted stale.  In between the layers was a custard that reminded me of the white custard that you would find in a doughnut.  Lets just say, I’m not getting that again anytime soon.

Our trip to Muscoreil’s left us with two amazing desserts, one good dessert and another that just didn’t work out at all.  I am still pretty excited for our upcoming cake tasting.   Judging by how great some of those desserts were and the positive comments I’ve read online, I think they could give Zillycakes (our leading candidate) a run for their money.

Maybe you could get the chocolate peanut butter pie for your groom’s cake? Your cake tastings sound fun!
