Food Porn: Sweet Tooth

UPDATE: Sweet Tooth will be closing their doors reportedly on Jan 7th, 2012.

I’ve lived literally across the street from Sweet Tooth for the last year and I can’t believe I haven’t written anything about the place.  I’ve probably visited the place over 10 times; at one point I was even the mayor of Sweet Tooth on foursquare.  Located in the heart of Allentown (on the corner of Elmwood and Allen) they serve cakes, ice cream (Perry’s) and chocolates.  So when my roommate Jay and I had a craving for something sweet, I grabbed my camera and decided to do a proper Food Porn on the place.  For the most part, I’ve always had a good experience at Sweet Tooth as the staff is usually pretty good and can handle the rush of costumers during their peak hours.  But we have had some issues with their food in the past (i.e. cakes and cookies that have been stale).  And on my first occasion there I ordered a S’More sundae but it only consisted of vanilla ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate sauce (no graham crackers or marshmallow…).  I’m hoping there was a communication error or the server was a new hire.  But we still go back because they have really affordable prices and when they are “on” it’s great. Here is how our experience went on a cold, windy night….

I had a craving for Lemon bar (thanks to a South Park episode) and was very excited to see they had some in their glass case.  I ended up picking up their Chocolate Decadence for Alli which was exactly that, a very strong chocolate flavor from the moist, tender cake with chocolate mousse  filling and butter-cream frosting.  This cake was not stale at all thankfully; it was nice and fluffy and tasted extremely fresh.  Although, for anyone to enjoy this properly you really need to be a serious chocolate fan.  It was a little overwhelming and rich for my liking.  I also ordered the Lemon bar and a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie for myself.  The Lemon square I originally thought would have more of a “lemon custard” base but instead it was all a solid, lemon flavored brownie.  It turned out pretty awesome, though, and completely satisfied my craving.  The  cookie was a fairly standard cookie, nothing really special about it.  I prefer their cookies in the summer time when they create ice cream sandwiches with them. I highly recommend the frozen yogurt/oatmeal raisin cookie sandwiches.

Our roommate Jay also ordered a Lemon Square and he was pleasantly surprised as well.  He also grabbed one of their Spiced Pumpkin Cupcakes.

My visits with Sweet Tooth have been hit or miss in the past, but recently they have been more hits then misses.  For anyone who hasn’t been, they have a good amount of seating.  They also have amazing hours, they’re open til 10 o’clock Sunday through Thursday and til 11 o’clock on Friday and Saturday which is great for a late night craving.  You don’t have to spend a lot of money either, those Lemon Bars are only 1.90 each and their cookies are as cheap as 90 cents.  So if you’re on a budget and craving a sugar buzz, check it out.
