Food Porn: Sweet_ness 7 Cafe (Parkside)

After viewing a picture posted by Merge’s twitter account of what looked like a delicious Nutella crepe at the newly opened Sweet_ness 7 Cafe, Alli and I quickly made up our mind for what we were eating that weekend; we were getting crepes.  It was basically a no-brainer.  I love Nutella, whipped cream, and bananas and on their own, so how could I not love them in crepe form?  I also had fell in love with Sweet_ness 7’s other location on Grant Street, so I had a really good feeling this place would serve the same high quality food.  So on a Saturday morning we took a drive over to the new location (located literally across the street from the Zoo) and decided to try these popular crepes out.  Here’s how our experience went….

Inside had that same casual, antique setting that the Grant St. location had.  There’s a large round table in the middle of the room that works as a “family table” where several different couples can sit and eat.   In the back of restaurant you can walk into the kitchen and actually view them making your food.  Since we had our minds already made up, we ordered right away and I added a Vietnamese Coffee to my order (it was just as delicious as the Grant St. cup) and Alli ordered some Hot Chocolate (see below).

Both the drinks and food were delicious; honestly, some of the best crepe’s I’ve ever eaten.  They didn’t skimp on the Nutella in the crepes as they were loaded with the hazelnut/chocolaty goodness.  The crepe itself was so light and fluffy you could cut it apart with the side of a fork.  My roommate and his friend both ordered different crepes, one with lemon curd and another topped with assorted berries.  They both also really enjoyed their meals.  The service experience, however, was less then desired.  I understand they are preparing these items to order and that almost everything they serve in the restaurant is made from scratch, however, we had to wait an incredibly long time to get our crepes.  It seemed like the chef was really into talking to the customers, which I appreciate, but I also don’t like to wait 30+ minutes for my breakfast.  That said, the fantastic quality and taste of the crepes made up for the wait.  However, they did mess up my order and only prepared 1 of my Nutella crepes when I had ordered 2 (for Alli and myself) and that was annoying that I had to wait even longer.

So if you are a downtown resident, you have to go and eat there, now.  I don’t even like coffee and I gulped down my Vietnamese coffee in record speed.  And my crepe wasn’t on my plate much longer.  Their food is really great and made with really fresh ingredients.  When we visited it was right after they opened the location so I am hoping the service is better now as they had issues with the registers/ordering/menu at the time.
