The Mighty Adventure #3: 2021 Walden Ave

For our third Mighty Adventure we went to one of the newest Mighty Taco locations, the new Cheektowaga location on Walden Ave.  The building was previously known to most Western New Yorkers as Krispy Kreme (R.I.P.) connected to Borders Bookstore.  Krispy Kreme closed their doors to this Cheektowaga location several years ago and the building has been vacant ever since.  But in August, Mighty Taco decided to close their other Walden Ave location (on the corner of Union Rd) and build a big brand new location down the road.

The previous location was located on a busy intersection and I always thought trying to get in/out of the place was a bit of a hassle.  Also I was excited to see something being done with that building, I mean who likes seeing empty buildings around Western New York?  So we decided to make it out next visit for an early Sunday lunch, here’s our thoughts on Mighty’s biggest/newest location.

Visited: 10/3/10

The Food:

For this visit I decided to try the Burrito De-Lite (pictured below), a chicken burrito that is filled with salsa, re-fried beans with cheese and lettuce.  The salsa was definitely needed with the re-fried beans making the burrito a little dry.  But I was impressed with the burrito, it’s something I never would have looked at normally but since we’ve been forcing ourselves to try something new with each trip, I happened to order it.  The salsa itself definitely had a spicy kick to it, so eaters beware if you don’t like a little heat.

I also ordered a Super Mighty, something I haven’t eaten in a couple years (I’ve switched to chicken fajitas).  I loved it; I forgot how their beef tasted and was shocked by how big they were.  They really shove a lot of beef into each burrito and I would have liked a bigger portion of lettuce and tomato instead.  I mean, I enjoy their beef but sometimes taking a big bite of 99% beef can be too much for me.

The service at this Mighty was pretty good.  When we walked in there were people at the registers ready to take our order.  The food came out really fast and since we were there really early we were able to sit down and eat right away.  All of the tables (and there are a lot inside) were all cleaned off and everything looked very clean.

The Location:

This location shouldn’t even be compared to the other locations.  First of all the interior is huge, with probably double the seating of any other location.  They have 4 large LCD TV’s located in each corner of the restaurant which I’ve never seen at any other location.  Outside they have 7 Tables for seating which is much more then anything I’ve seen before.  They also have a long drive through, for you mall shoppers on the go.  The only knock of the place was their wasn’t any great decoration; something that I’ve enjoyed in other Mighty’s has been the Buffalo decor inside.  This was more like a clean, sterile cafeteria.  Don’t get me wrong, you can immediately tell this is one of the newest locations with the nice new tables and the large TV’s, but it doesn’t have a lot of character (yet).

I agree about the lack of lettuce and tomatoes. I think they have cut back on that at most locations recently. I would gladly pay an extra quarter to get a nice helping of lettuce and tomatoes on my Super Mighty. I am not sure if you can order “extra” lettuce and tomatoes, and if you did, how much more would you get? The amount is pretty tiny now, so it kind of stinks that you would have to ask for extra.

it’s something so easy as a little bit more of lettuce and tomato that would make that burrito taste twice as good. but it was just way too little, eventually Tom and I have to order an El Nino and I’m curious as to how little will be in those.

Extra Lettuce and Tomato are free if the item you are getting already comes with Lettuce and Tomato.
