Food Porn: Fera’s Subs

UPDATE: Fera’s has since closed.

We find our restaurants in a variety of ways; when we see a write up online, suggestions from readers on twitter and even other food blogs.  While looking at restaurant reviews on Buffalo restaurants, we ended up finding a review of Fera’s Subs by a food blog based in the South East called Pie’s Plate.  I highly recommend you read the article because the way Rhonette wrote about eating a Fera’s Baked Cheese Sub, I immediately wrote it down as something I was going to eat in the near future.

So luckily we found ourselves a buy 1/2 sub get a 1/2 sub free coupon and went over for lunch.  Alli and I ordered ourselves a Baked Cheese Sub and are somehow we are still here and healthy enough to talk about it.  Here’s how it went…..

Driving by, Fera’s isn’t that inviting.  Their restaurant is located in between a Chinese restaurant and Corner Mart on Niagara Falls Blvd.  Truth be told the inside (pictured above) isn’t that inviting either.  Right when you walk into building you’ll see their counter where you can pick up or order you’re meal.  They building really isn’t designed for a nice sit down and dine in meal, they have 3 smaller tables but that’s about it.  So after we placed our order we realized this would be a meal we were taking home.

Our order was basically already made for us after reading the Pie Plate review; we ordered our Baked Cheese Sub (pictured above), a small fry and went back home.  We lucked out, the cheese was still warm and gooey and didn’t harden into an inedible brick.  This thing is quite the beast and you better not make plans for anything afterwards (and maybe plan on some extra cardio the next day).  This sub is loaded with Provolone, Swiss, American and Mozzarella along with the optional toppings of Mayo (god help your stomach), Lettuce and Tomato.  It was a giant grilled cheese sandwich and I loved it. Sure, it got incredibly messy and I was a little nervous about having a cheese overload but everything worked out and while I’ll probably give it some time before I order another one, I totally would.

Unfortunately the fries sucked, they were soggy from the beginning, as soon as we got in the car and reached for one they weren’t crunchy and just blah.  Also, while the girl who greeted me and took my order was kind and friendly, it seemed that the two people working were either new or had no idea what they were doing.  They constantly were yelling back and forth to each other about how to make something and did get a couple orders wrong, so I imagine things might be even better when the regulars are working.  But definitely give it a try, their menu is incredibly reasonable and has some great specials that seem to be available every week.

I used to live near Fera’s and it was a regular stop for us for subs. Baked beef was always excellent.

    • Glad you read my review and tried one yourself! I miss the food in Buffalo and the baked cheese was one of them. Throw in some Mighty Taco chicken fajitas…..yummy!
