Food Porn: Lloyd Taco Truck

When I walked up to the Lloyd truck last week I was instantly very proud of our city.  I’ve wanted Buffalo to expand their street food options for years now and when I first heard about Lloyd I was excited, but also skeptical.  I knew fellow foodies like myself or those who read Buffalo Rising would have been really excited but I wasn’t sure if the average “TGI Friday” lunchtime crowd would be interested.  So, when I walked up to the truck and saw a line a good 40 people long I was thrilled.

The use of the internet has done wonders for Lloyd, you can follow the daily updates from their twitter account, facebook page, and they’ve been featured on basically every Buffalo website imaginable.  So far, it seems Buffalo is really excited about having a Taco Truck, and they should be! Some of the best food in NYC/LA/Chicago is being served out of the windows of these food trucks.  It adds a new and exciting lunch option for the downtown crowd.

If you haven’t read my previous post this week, the future of Lloyd was in doubt.  Friday they hosted a fundraiser at Artisan Kitchens to raise money to fix the truck.  Hopefully they raised enough money to fix the truck and get to finding that Allentown location they hinted at (update: it appears they have!).

Anyways onto the food..

Their menu is pretty basic; you can get either a Taco (2.25/ea.) or a Burrito (5.50/ea.) and you fill those with either chicken, pork, beef or beans.  I went with my coworker Sue who ordered two tacos (as seen above) with chicken and pork.  Filled with cheese, some sour cream and lettuce, and served on an authentic corn tortilla.

I ordered the burrito and was pleasantly surprised by the how big it was, especially for only $5.50.  I ordered their Cilantro Chicken Burrito, which has similar toppings to the tacos.  For the burrito you also have your choice of beans or rice; I went with the rice which worked very well with the chicken.  The cilantro was a little overwhelming, and if you aren’t a fan of the flavor you might want to try one of their other 3 toppings.

If you are a Mighty Taco fanatic, these really aren’t the tacos for you, or at least don’t go in expecting a similar product.  What Lloyd serves up is a pretty authentic Mexican burrito/taco with fresh ingredients.  They are a welcome addition to the lunch options for those working downtown.  Unfortunately for me, the drive, parking and waiting in line makes getting these tacos too time consuming for my precious lunch hour.  However, after seeing the potential for more locations/times closer to my office, I will be looking forward to more delicious tacos in the near future.

I found LLYOD when I was DT for a meeting. It was great! Fresh ingredients not that long of a line and the guys were really nice and appreciative that I stoppped by. The only negative is that I work too far away. They had a Thank You Buffalo sign on their truck which shows how grateful they are for the community helping them out. I hope they last and that more people discover them!
