Food Porn: The Globe Market

I have been meaning to try The Globe Market for a little while now; a fellow coworker swore by it and it’s located in a great area to get lunch and even offers some freshly made bread and cheeses.  I’ve passed by it several times and it can actually go undetected, located in the heart of the Elmwood village next to Wilson Farms, to a quick passer by it can look like an extension of a parking lot, or a yoga studio.

Once inside though, you are greeted with a large deli counter (as seen above) and a nice menu of wraps and sandwiches.  Looking around you will no doubt notice the ‘Best Deli in Buffalo’ awards, and I can assure you that our meal lived up to those praises.

To start off we had a Chipotle Cheddar Potato Soup. The soup was thick, creamy, and extremely flavorful with a great hint of heat and spice that went amazingly well with some of the fresh slices of bread offered.

Alli ordered herself up a fantastic Turkey Sandwich on freshly cooked white bread, with chutney cranberry mayo (maybe the best kind of mayo in my opinion, next to bacon mayo) that came with a side salad full of dried cranberries, candied nuts, brie, and their own balsamic dressing.

I ordered the Thai Chicken Wrap after Alli pointed it out on the menu.  Since I generally enjoy Thai food and I generally enjoy wraps, this was a safe bet.  This wrap was probably the best I’ve had since starting this website (February 2009).  What separated this wrap from the rest was their use of veggies.  Not the chicken, not the wrap itself, or any dressing (although the coconut lime dressing was fantastic) but the freshness/quality of the peppers, carrots, cucumbers and lettuce inside the wrap.  Each bite was a crisp crunch and a different combination of flavor.  It was such an awesome surprise to have something be so delicious (and healthy) because of something so simple.

I’ve heard a lot about the Globe, but walking into the place and seeing all those awards on the walls and a large deli counter, I knew was going to have a great meal.  We went during lunch hours on a week day and it was packed so plan accordingly.  They have lovely outdoor patio seating that I recommend you enjoy while you can; the seating inside is somewhat limited.  And don’t forget about the bakery where you can pick up some freshly cooked breads and other gourmet items.  They are located on Elmwood, right next to Wilson Farms and across the street from Brodo/SpOt Coffee.
