Food Porn: Steak and Sub

Not too long ago, I was visiting one of my favorite websites (Buffalo Rising) and saw this article about a new Jim’s Steakout-esque style restaurant located on Main Street (near Wendy’s and Anchor Bar).  Sure its nothing too exciting; I mean the addition of sub and sandwich place in downtown Buffalo isn’t going to set the city on fire.  However, it’s great to just have another restaurant of any kind, especially when its a short distance from my work and can be a new lunch destination.

Anyone who has eaten at a Jim’s Steakout has a pretty good idea of what they can expect from Steak & Sub.  The menu, the design of the restaurant, are all very familiar.  Except everything inside is new (obviously you can tell this place was just built recently).  The tables, the chairs, everything felt new.  Hell the 3 flat panel TV’s, located above the counter, looked like they just came out of the boxes.  The place was freezing cold (on a particularly muggy July day) but I’ve never been one to complain that a place is too cold.  After being impressed with everything I had seen, I was getting excited to try the food out finally.

Like I said , the menu was filled with the typical Hoagies, Hot Sub’s, Cold Subs, French Fries and Chicken Fingers (you get the idea).  I ordered the Chicken Hoagie which contained the traditional cheese, cooked onions, lettuce, tomato and oil (not a big mayo fan).  I won’t lie, it didn’t blow my socks off but it was very satisfying.  The roll, toasted and crunchy while still holding up all that meat, would be what could separate this sub from any Jim’s offering.  It was a roll that actually added to the flavor of the sub instead of just just being the boring bread that the meat goes in between.

Sure the restaurant didn’t blow me away, but it is a nice addition and an attractive new restaurant on an area of Main Street that is hopefully being rejuvenated.  What also sold me on this place was during our time eating there, we had the entertainment of Luther Vandross’s Music Video Collection on all 3 TV’s (if you’re counting that is our 2nd Luther Vandross shout out in a Food Porn).
