Food Porn: Bozanna’s Pizzeria

So like Donnie, I am always looking for a good slice of pizza.  I find that pizza can be put into two different categories: New York and Chicago.  Most pizza around here follows the Chicago mold – thicker crust (not quite deep dish), and loaded with cheese and sauce.  New York style obviously is a thinner crust with a lighter approach.  If you are expecting New York Style Pizza – DO NOT head to Bozanna’s.

Now I have heard the legends of Bozanna’s from many of my friends and various randoms.  Rumors of a pizza with so many toppings that it is a challenge just to finish one slice,  of chicken finger subs that come with six, yes SIX chicken fingers on them, and calzones that are stuffed so big they are about to explode.  Unfortunately on this trip to Bozanna’s I was not able to try it all.  It isn’t the type of place you could do that.  As a matter of fact, I had two pieces of pizza and I pretty much couldn’t move for the next two hours.

Bozanna’s is on Camp Road in Hamburg, right around where 20A intersects.  It is an uninspiring building from the outside, a weird pyramid shaped facade made out of brown wood.  Inside is even less appealing, it is dark with old and drab tables and chairs, complete with an old racing arcade game bearing an “out of order” sign.  However, when I went in to pick up the pie, no one seemed to care.  There were various groups ranging from couples, to families, to even a little league team eager to pack in some post-game mozzarella.  If you choose to eat in, you order at the counter and just pick a table.  Casual counter service that suits the place perfectly.

So how was the food?  See for yourself:

The picture is your standard iPhone quality, unfortunately, and comes nowhere near to doing this thing justice.  One thing you can tell is how much freakin’ toppings are on the thing!  I swear there was a whole onion on that one half, and probably a whole jar of bana peppers on the other.  The italian sausage was delicious and plentiful, and the pepperoni?  Oh the pepperoni, I swear to god they just took handfuls and threw it on there.  This wasn’t like a normal pizza where the ‘roni is carefully arranged around the outside.  There were spots where you bit into the slice only to realize that one piece of pepperoni you saw in your “chew radius” was actually FOUR.

The other thing the picture doesn’t show is the dough.  The dough was thick, but not overly thick.  I’d say it was just a bit thicker than a LaNova/Ricotta’s style pizza.  The sauce was plentiful and very sweet, I enjoyed it.  And for a pizza with such an amazing amount of toppings, they didn’t overwhelm you with cheese.  It was more than a regular pie, of course, but perfect for everything else that was going on.

I strongly recommend this place.  I will be returning very soon to try the rest of their menu items.  There is no Bozanna’s menu or website online unfortunately, even though maybe that just adds a bit more to the legend of the place.  For comparison purposes, the pizza above cost me about $20, but it was well worth it.  That’s only a bit more than a regular pie, but this one will last you a day or two more.  There is also a Bozanna’s on Main Street in Williamsville, and I understand it is just as good.

I’ll leave you with this picture I found online, a cross section of their chicken finger sub:

Well you know im a little guy, so i could get through one and be completely stuffed. The pizza is good, i wont say great. I dont think im on board with THAT many toppings, unless its a Cheese and Jalapeno Pizza. Its the only place my parents order from, so maybe i just get sick of it. Glad you liked it though man
