Food Porn: Pano’s

The last time I went to Pano’s it felt more like going to an old house, where a sun room had been turned into a seating area.  Over the last year, they have made some major improvements to the building.  The inside has completely been revamped, new walls/booths/tables…actually, it’s pretty much a whole new building.  They now have a bar that feels like a real bar, where one could actually sit and eat and watch some TV, and they added a second floor.  The menu still has many of their favorites; breakfast all day, great greek selections, and a whole selection of chicken, steaks, pasta, and seafood.  They also have a great rotation of daily specials, all for reasonable prices.  Alli and I had two of these specials when we Dined Out for Life this past week.

I decided to try the Chicken Salonika, which was made up of:

Greek Seasoned Chicken, Roasted Red Peppers, Tomatoes, Artichokes, spinach, Goat Cheese and Feta with Penne Pasta

Alli got a steak/penne pasta dish (the actual name of which escapes me) that was extremely creamy and delicious.  The pasta included baby tomatoes, spinach, and a fantastic gorgonzola cream sauce.  The steak was very tender and complimented the dish wonderfully.  This was, again, one of their daily specials, so if you decide to try it, be warned it is not on their regular menu (unfortunately) but hopefully will be available more times than not.

Pano’s on Elmwood has been around for over 30 years, so if you haven’t been there yet, you’ve been missing out.  They used to be open 24/7 (which was great during my college years) but now are open only until 1am (which is still late enough to grab a midnight snack if you are in the area).  The menu has something for everyone at very reasonable prices.  Cons include the parking; the parking lot is very VERY small and anyone who has been on Elmwood knows parking on the street can be frustrating.  Also, the inside sometimes can get a bit crowded, but wait times never seen to be too crazy.  For the most part the service staff seems to be very friendly, however, over the years I have had one or two crabby waiters (which could really happen at any restaurant).  Overall, definitely recommended if you are looking for a great meal in a cool area of Buffalo.
