Food Porn: Founding Fathers

UPDATE:  Since this post we’ve wrote another article about Founding Fathers and their amazing Black and Blue Burger, check it out here.

This will be one of the least food focused “Food Porns” this site has posted yet, but I needed to write about one of my favorite bars in Buffalo somehow, so this is going to have to do.  Founding Fathers is a bar that I was introduced to by a close Buffalo Eats friend Eric, and since then, I’ve always enjoyed going there and grabbing a pint.  The atmosphere is definitely for an older crowd, but it’s still a pretty cool stop for anyone that happens to be in Allentown.  This bar is known for its love of politics (get the name?),  bartender/owner Michael Driscoll, and the plethora of United States history that covers the walls.  They have a good selection of beer (nothing outstanding), serve a limited menu, and have free pop corn and nacho’s many nights of the week (Alli’s favorite feature).

Founding Fathers has become one of our newer spots for lunch at work, a little bit of a longer walk but a place that generally is dead during the day (in a good way) and we can get a good seat to watch TV.  Last week I tried their NY Steak Sirloin sandwich, which was alright but nothing to brag about (side note: I really wish they served french fries).  Their black and blue chicken is another item I’ve had acouple times and it’s a better choice.

To be honest, their food is sub-par (or atleast in comparison to other restaurants in the area), their menu is heavy on the burgers and sandwiches and it’s really nothing I would go out of my way for.  The bar itself, though, is worth the trip.  Even the place mats are full of facts and trivia regarding the Presidents (example: which ones were born on the 4th of July?)  And the first Tuesday of every month they have trivia night.  And if you are looking for a good place to go drink during Election night or when primary results are coming out, this is the place.  You would think the Super Bowl was on.

Anyone who is in the Allentown/Delaware or even Chippewa (only a couple blocks down the road) area, you need to try this place out just once.  The mood is generally really chill, and it’s definitely unique and filled with a lot of history and for that (as well as the free nachos), its one of my favorite places to drink in Buffalo.

  1. the mirror in the back gives off an illusion that the place is bigger in size… after an hour when i was in there, i finally realized there was no back section but just a reflection of the people in front of it

anyways, no one would order food there at night when they offer free nachos, chili, cheese, and popcorn
