Food Porn: Zetti’s Pizza and Pasta

Usually I am the ‘behind the scenes’ editor/food eater on this blog.  I tend to accompany Donnie on his trips to various restaurants then edit his posts after the fact.  But today I happened to go to a new place to eat with my UB friend, Todd.  After a presentation we had to do at the Buffalo Marriott we decided to stop for a slice of pizza at Zetti’s Pizza and Pasta.

Zetti’s is new-ish to Buffalo, with locations on Maple (directly across from the entrance to UB North) and also Main street in the University Plaza (directly across from UB South).  Their tag line is “The Auntentic NY Style Italian Restaurant” and I have to say, they are not lying.

At first glance it looks like your typical take out pizza place with a few tables to sit down at inside.  But in reality, they have a shitload of food to choose from.  They unfortunately do not have a website yet but believe me when I say their menu is extensive.  They have the obvious wings, fingers, salads and pizza but also a huge selection of pasta (some of which is very authentically Italian such as the Tortellina Quatrofamagio, Cavatelli Sole, Pasta a Coure-or shrimp, chicken, and artichokes in a white wine lemon butter sauce- and some of which is just good classic “American style” Italian like spaghetti parm and baked ziti), as well as soups, sides of fresh spinach, eggplant and zucchini sticks  (which I believed are battered and fried, of course), chicken and veal dishes, as well as subs (or heroes as those crazy new yorkers call them) and calzones.

Now, on to the pizza….there are tons of different types, and most are on display behind a glass case when you walk in and (after a quick pop in the oven to heat) are ready to eat.  There’s the classic pepperoni, chicken finger, sausage, cheese….but then lots of cool pizzas like eggplant sorrentino which as eggplant, ricotta, and mozz….penna alla vodka pizza which has penna pasta that has been tossed in vodka sauce and then topped with mozz….salad pizza, old world Sicilian style, artichine brushetta pizza, spinach bruschetta pizza, various stuffed pizzas, white pizzas, etc etc etc….

Bottom line, there are a ton to choose from, and, like I said, a lot of them are ready to go and on display when you walk in and want to grab a slice.  All the pizzas are cooked in a brick over and most, that I saw anyway, are traditional NYC style..huge HUGE slices that you can fold in half, thin, crispy crust….  And, as someone who has had pizza in NYC, this place is as close as you are going to get in Buffalo to that style.

Even the guys working in the place are straight from NYC and have the stereotypical ‘wiseguy’ accent…so you know they know what they are doing when it comes to authentic new york style pizza.

What you see below is a rather crappy phone picture from my blackberry that unforch does not have a nice iPhone quality that Donnie’s pics usually have but you get the idea.  I tried a slice of pepperoni (of course) and their Buffalo chicken finger pizza.  Both were delicious huge thin slices.  Unpictured was Todd’s selection of 2 slices of white pizza made with ricotta, mozz, garlic, and broccoli.  I tried a piece, also delicious.

Bottom line, if you are ever around UB (north of south) and want a nice huge tasty slice of pizza (or sub, pasta, wings, whatever) stop by Zetti’s, as an Italian girl who loves new york style pizza, I highly recommend it.  It’s pretty cheap (2 slices cost me 6$ and some change).  And it’s a way better option that Sbarro’s (ew).
