Food Porn: Louie’s Texas Red Hots

For reasons that are unknown to me (if anyone knows, please tell me), there are TWO Louie’s franchises in Buffalo (Louie’s Original Hot Dogs and Louie’s Red Hots).  I went to Louie’s Red Hots, or, the “other” Louie’s ….  I have lived here all my life and never once did I notice there are two different Louie’s that are not connected other than they both have basically the same menu, both open 24/7, both known for their hot dogs, and both have yellow and red signs.  Yeah, I don’t get it either.

This Louie’s Texas Red Hot’s location is relatively new (built while I was in high school, which I’m realizing is quickly becoming ‘long ago’) and resides near Ralph Wilson stadium in Orchard Park.  Until recently I never really had to urge to eat there, but since they started accepting credit cards, I’ve gone more often.

Friday night I got myself a couple of their hot dogs, but with “the works”.  The Louie’s Texas Red Hot works are different from that ‘other’ Louie’s “works“.  Are you confused?  It’s ok, me too.  In any case, the “works” I had included Mustard, Onions, and Greek Sauce (I added Feta for 59 cents), and the verdict was delicious.  This weekend I came to the realization that I can throw Feta Cheese on anything and will love it (see example 1).

Bottom line, a hot dog is a hot dog and at places like this what matters are the condiments.  They also have breakfast 24/7 and a lot of nice greek selections on the menu to choose from.  Nothing groundbreaking but a good cheap stop if you looking for a quick bite to eat anytime of the day or night.
