Food Porn: Louie’s Original Foot Longs

Going to the Louie’s Original Foot Long‘s on Elmwood Ave is a good time, the location is about the size of my bedroom (might be smaller).  The first time me and my friend Matt went there on our lunch break we had a rude awakening that there might not be any space to sit down and eat (we had to wait for an 80 year old lady to leave a booth).

Now I am familiar with Louie’s near my house, but apparently its the same restaurant but not at all.  The same idea, hot dogs and milk shakes, but the one near me is Louie’s Texas Red Hots.  Not only are they serving almost the same food (Red Hots has some Greek) but they both use Red and Yellow signs.  Confused? Me too.

Regardless, I am all about covering my hot dogs lately with as much food and condiments as possible.  At this location you can get your dogs with “the works” which is: Mustard, Hot Sauce, Onions, Pickles.  Which I did on both my foot long hot dog, and my White Hot (my first time trying it).

The White Hot was good but nothing mind blowing, to be honest I didn’t taste any major difference between that and the foot long.  It was a little thicker and juicier, but flavor wise pretty much the same.  I love a hot dog, but I still can’t tell a difference from any location.  In Buffalo, NY it is pretty safe to assume that every body is using Sahlen’s Hot Dogs anyways.  To wash it all down I got myself a Chocolate Mint Milkshake which was actually really damn good.  Living near Taffy’s I know a great milkshake and this guy competed well.

My buddy Matt got himself a foot long covered in cheese and an order of curly fries.  Both looked delicious and he seemed satisfied with his choice.

My advice, if you’re in the area and you want a hot dog.  It’s a no brainer, just becareful in the winter time for:

A) parking: Elmwood sucks and all the f-ing parking meters are broken.

B) seating: there is 3 booths and maybe 10 total bar stool-like seats.  so either go there at weird times or get it to go.

C) ordering: the menu is really hard to read (atleast of me) and you better know what u want when you walk in, because there is no standing room.  So unless you want to be the jackass who is standing there looking at the fine print, do you’re homework ahead of time.

  1. Now this is ‘slap it up! flip it! rub it down!” food porn.
I love the natural lighting you used in these pics. You can see it reflecting off the cheese. Love it! Nice grill marks on the bun too.
