Food Porn: Ulrich’s Tavern

One of the first Bizzle Idols (on my first website Bizzle Bros) we ever did was Anthony Bourdain, writer and a host of The Travel Channel’s No Reservations. The idea of the show is to go from city to city (country to country even) and try out the most famous restaurants and meals from said areas.

Well, just a couple months ago it was revealed that at some point Anthony Bourdain and his crew were going to film some Buffalo, NY segments for his television show.

Naturally, I was super excited.  Where would he go?  What would he think?  Well, he went to this place (Ulrich’s Tavern) because this guy said it was good.  I had never heard of this place and decided that me and my friend Mike would try it out.

To start we got the Home made Crab Cakes and Sausage (Hot Buffalo-far back and Bratwurst-closer), crab cakes were very tasty, the hot buffalo sausage was sadly disappointing and the bratwurst was good.

I then had the Pittsburgh Salad, which consisted of steak, salad, blue cheese and underneath it all ….. french fries.  It was actually pretty good but nothing German nor Buffalo,NY about it.

I guess what I took away from this tiny (and ancient) tavern in Buffalo is, there are MANY OTHER places that are notorious for great food around Buffalo that are much better.  But I begin to wonder how much of that is based on food and how much is based on history.  Just because something is around forever, definitely doesn’t make it the best.

    well, you skipped out on the dish that the place is most famous for – beef on weck!!! please donnie, let me in on this site, i lived in the city for 3 god damn years! i have a lot of info on some hidden gems. well, i talked to you earlier tonight, we’ll have to go “fooding” some time soon. oh yeah…i worked at a restaurant too…yeah…mangia…i know food brother.

    Enjoying your website immensely, glad I found it. I’m a Buffalo guy, and I’ll be reading to find out where I want to try out.

    I just want to say something so your readers are aware, that Ulrich’s does have some of best weinerschnitzel that I’ve had. Try going on a Friday night and you’ll also be treated to some live Irish or German music.

    Thanks for the comment, thats basically the idea of the blog just to introduce people to new places. But I would like to try that place again, I feel like the first time it was either bad timing or high expectations but it was a little disappointing. But it’s on my list of re-visits.
