Food Porn: WJ Morrissey’s Irish Pub (CLOSED)

UPDATE: Check out our more detailed review from here (1/22/10)

UPDATE #2: The restaurant has since closed.

The Cobblestone area of Buffalo is awesome. Not only is the Casino (if it ever happens) going to be across the street, but Cobblestone (the bar) is a really nice bar. Cobblestone Lofts also house some trendy office space for companies, along with some swanky residential housing.

So today when trying to figure out what to eat, Alli suggested WJ Morrisey’s. A newly built restaurant (April 19th, 2008 was the opening) that was a cool Irish Pub. Now, for those who don’t know me (Donnie B) personally, I am very proud of my Irish heritage (all 30% of it). So we went for it, luckily it was dead as hell in there. Honestly we were two of a total of 10 people in the bar (including staff).

The ‘Irish’ feel was incredible.  Historical posters lined the walls and most of the furniture actually was built and shipped from Ireland. The menu was full of Irish delicacies, and Alli was sad to find out the Guinness Irish Stew was out of stock that day.

What you are looking at is their appetizer ‘Irish Boxty Wedges’. According to WJ Morrisey’s menu, that is a:

Potato style Pancake Wedges lightly fried golden brown and served with sour cream and chives.

In addition we had the Crab Cake Hoagie (not very Irish), the Chicken Pesto Melt (also not very Irish). I had a pint of Boddington’s and Long Trial Belgian White. It was a filling and good meal, I would highly recommend it. Next time I will over come my fears of Ireland’s not so famous cuisine and try the foods of my ancestors.
