Food Porn: Tantalus Restaurant Bar & Cafe

UPDATE: Tantalus has since closed and will be re-opening under the same ownership as Medici House.

This past Saturday, Alli and I had the pleasure of going to Tantalus (pictured above), a restaurant located in the wonderful village of East Aurora, NY, for her birthday.  We had wonderful things from her sister who had been there several times, and it looked nice on the outside so I was very excited to try it out.

The style of the restaurant is kind of all over the place, so 1 trip to this place really doesn’t give you a great idea of what you can eat.  The inside (see above) had a very “clean” feel to the restaurant with various wooden and rusty pieces of art all over (we sat right underneath a huge rusty wheel from an old tractor).  The menu was almost too much though, I do love variety but not to the point where I get lost and have no idea what I want.  For a first time visit, it can create some minor anxiety issues.

Mediterrean Style

Inside Burger: Mediterrean Style

I started off with one of their “Inside Burgers” which means they took some ingredients and stuffed the burger first then grilled it.  They had a Mexican Option, a Bacon & Cheese option and another one, however I decided on the “Medditerrean Style“.  It was filled with feta, spinach and delicious olives.  I tried to cut it open to show you, the picture came out alittle blurry tho.  The burger was delicious, but not to go unnoticed but the beer selection was excellent.  They had over 12 options on draft (and the cool stuff too) and they had a huge bottle selection.  I got myself a bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon (where do they sell bottles?) and on draft I had Ithaca Apricot Wheat (amazing).

Black & Blue Steak

Black & Blue Steak

Alli got herself a true birthday meal, which was the Black & Blue Steak, which was basically a wonderful cut of meat with blue cheese melted on top.  It looked awesome.  And she assures everyone that it is delicious.  If you are in the East Aurora area, I would recommend getting a beer and meal from Tantalus and heading next door to Taste to get some dessert.
